History of Chi Chapter at Cornell

Delta Gamma is the oldest continually operated sorority at Cornell, founded on March 7, 1885. The Chi Chapter is also one of the oldest DG chapters in the country.

In 1893, the sisters of Chi leave Sage College to rent a residence of their own.  This "lodge" moves several times until they purchase the Sage Mansion on East Seneca Street and stay for 20 years.

Founded in 1873 in Oxford, Mississippi by three young women who were unable to go home for Christmas break, the national organization of Delta Gamma celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2023. Today there are 146 collegiate chapters and more than 220 alumnae groups across the country.

From 1885 -1893, Delta Gamma's first "home" on campus is a room in Sage College, the university's first women's dorm.

In 1940, the chapter house at 117 Triphammer Road is built.  It is enlarged in 1966 and is the home of Delta Gamma at Cornell today.

Cornell DGs have been leaving their mark on the world for nearly 140 years! In 1985, Chi Alumnae endow a scholarship fund for their collegian sisters. In 2021, our collegians endow the RealTalk speaker program.
